Stephens Co. Wins On Homecoming

Stephens County picks up a second straight Region 8-AAAA football win.

The Indians overcame an early deficit and pulled away in the second half to beat Monroe Area by a score of 29-6 on Homecoming at the Reservation.

Monroe Area led 6-0 early after a 5-yard Alfred King touchdown run in the first quarter.

However, a 25-yard field goal from Luke Pearson and a 13-yard run from A.J. Howard put the Indians up 10-6 at halftime.

After halftime, a host of Stephens County interceptions gave the Indians great field position.

Stephens County scored two touchdowns in the quarter, one on a 2-yard touchdown run from Hassan Brown and the other on a 4-yard touchdown run by Jackson Bell.

The Indians wrapped up the scoring early in the fourth quarter on Howard’s second touchdown run, a 10-yarder.

Indians’ Head Coach Frank Barden said it was a great performance by the defensive secondary to set the offense up all night long with the interceptions.

“They are getting better with their eyes,” said Barden. “Coach Curry is doing a great job with them. They are doing a great job.”

With the win, the Indians are now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in region play.

Next up is a road trip to Cleveland to face White County in another region contest on Friday night.

In other news, Kaitlan Elizabeth Knight, daughter of Gary and Tina Knight, was named Homecoming Queen this year at Stephens County High School.
