Theft Investigation in Toccoa Leads To Arrests

A theft investigation leads to two arrests in Toccoa.

Police Chief Tim Jarrell said it started when the Toccoa Police Department responded to an alarm at a Currahee Street convenience store on February 18.

“Officers arrived,” said Jarrell. “They found that the front door glass had been busted out. It appears as if someone had thrown a large rock or piece of cinder block through the window.”

According to Jarrell, they then looked at surveillance video.

“They were able to identify an unknown individual going through the store, looking for what appeared to be lottery tickets,” said Jarrell. “The manager confirmed lottery tickets were missing from the business.”

Jarrell says an investigation showed that there were similar incidents elsewhere, including in Stephens County, the city of Cornelia, and the city of Mt. Airy.

He said a resulting multi-agency investigation led to an arrest earlier this week in Toccoa.

Jarrell said 48-year-old Felix Antonio Tirado was arrested and charged in connection with the case.

The chief said Tirado faces multiple charges.

They include Burglary-Second Degree, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Drug Related Objects, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Marijuana Less Than One Ounce, along with charges in other jurisdictions.

In addition, Jarrell said Tirado was found to be in possession of a truck stolen out of Hall County.

Jarrell said the investigation is ongoing.

“We recovered some items we believe to be stolen,” said Jarrell. “We are waiting to get with the Lottery Commission to verify that.”

Jarrell said at the same time as Tirado’s arrest, Toccoa Police arrested 34-year-old Mandy Black of Mt. Airy.

According to Jarrell, she is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Marijuana Less Than One Ounce.
