Franklin County Sheriff’s Office investigators were in South Carolina Saturday night gathering information on two men who allegedly robbed a restaurant at gunpoint Saturday afternoon.

It happened about 2 p.m. Saturday at the Subway off Exit 160 in Carnesville.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas, one of the men entered the restaurant with a gun and demanding money.

Thomas said the girl behind the counter handed over the money from the cash register and the suspect left.

The girl was able to give deputies a good description of the suspect and the vehicle he left in.

Deputies spotted the vehicle on Interstate 85 and attempted to stop it, but the suspects sped off and a chase began up the interstate into South Carolina.

Thomas said as the suspects sped away, the suspects threw what deputies believed was a gun out the window near the Georgia/South Carolina state line.

Later, he said, deputies saw more items being thrown out; that authorities believe was the stolen money.

The chase ended in Anderson County, near mile marker 21 on the Interstate, where Franklin County deputies and Anderson County authorities arrested the pair.

Thomas said the suspects, whose names have not been released, are being held in the Anderson County Detention Center.

They are expected to be extradited back to Georgia this week to face multiple charges, including armed robbery.
