City Manager Wheeler Discusses Trash

WNEG News recently sat down with City Manager Fredda Wheeler to talk trash – literally – as we discussed services offered by the city’s solid waste department, as well as limitations on some of those services specifically relating to garbage pickup and yard waste pickup.

She said there is a difference between commercial or contractor waste, and garbage and waste generated by residents.

Wheeler talked about the city’s recycling program, which is offered to citizens as part of their garbage service.

She said anyone that was not aware of the recycling program can call city hall and a recycling bin will be dropped off at your residence.

She added that the city is asking citizens to abide by city ordinances stipulating that garbage cans only be set at the road during the day of pickup.

She added that there is a ‘Back Door Pickup’ program available for the elderly that live alone, or for those with physical limitations that make placing the trash containers at the road a difficulty.

She also highlighted the senior program that allows those who qualify for a senior discount to knock $2 off their monthly trash bill. Citizens can call City Hall to inquire about that program.
