Woman Cited in Sunday Wreck on Toccoa By-pass

More information is available on an accident over the weekend on the Toccoa By-pass.

The accident took place just after 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of the By-pass, or Highway 17, and Highway 106.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a Dodge cargo van driven by 53-year-old Denese A. Rodgers of Stockbridge, Georgia, was traveling south on Georgia Highway 17 in the left turn lane when it attempted to turn left on to Georgia Highway 106 and failed to yield to an oncoming vehicle that was traveling north on Georgia Highway 17.

The van then struck that other vehicle, a 2007 Honda Accord driven by 23-year-old Zachary Ryan Wade of Cornelia.

Troopers said the Accord struck the van in the right side with its front, causing the van to overturn on its side.

A passenger in the Accord, 23-year-old Chelsie Elizabeth O’Hara of Toccoa, had to be life flighted to Greenville Memorial Hopsital with what the GSP called non-incapacitating injuries.

Meanwhile, the GSP report stated that both drivers and two child passengers in the Accord, a 5-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl, were all taken to Stephens County Hospital.

Troopers say that Rodgers, the driver of the van, was charged with a citation of failure to yield while turning left.
