50th District State Senator John Wilkinson will once again serve as chair of the State Senate’s Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee for the 2015-2016 legislative term.

The State Senate’s Committee on Assignments recently announced that Wilkinson would continue in the role of chair for that committee.

He has served as the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee Chair since 2013.

The Senate Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee’s jurisdiction encompasses agricultural land use, commodities, commissions, fairs and expositions, marketing law, pest management, and pesticides.

Also, this committee may review laws dealing with consumer protection.

Wilkinson said that he is grateful to his colleagues for this appointment, adding that after countless years in the agriculture business, the topic remains near and dear to his heart.

The Stephens County Republican went on to say that he looks forward to working on legislation that ensures lands and communities are sustained so Georgia can continue to lead the agriculture industry throughout the country.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle said he appreciates Wilkinson taking on this leadership role and others in the State Senate, adding that he looks forward to working closely with Senator Wilkinson during the upcoming session.

Wilkinson was also selected to serve as the Vice-Chairman of the Education and Youth Committee and as a member of the Appropriations and Natural Resources committees.

In addition, he is an Ex-Officio Appointee to the Rules Committee and was appointed to one of the two seats available on the Committee on Assignments by the Lieutenant Governor.

The first term of the 153rd Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly convened last week at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.
