Two Injured in Motorcycle Wreck At Airport

Two people face charges from the Georgia State Patrol after getting into an accident at the Toccoa-Stephens County Airport over the weekend.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said it happened at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday on the runways at the airport.

According to the sheriff, there were four motorcycles riding on the runways and filming with cameras, and two of the motorcycles left following the accident.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle driven by 22-year old Christian Dakota Chadd was traveling west on the airport runway while a 2015 Suzuki driven by 20-year-old Kanler Chase Haley of Lavonia was traveling north on the runway.

The GSP said that Haley ‘s motorcycle struck the left side of Chadd’s motorcycle with its front and overturned and slid from the center of the runway to the grassy area off the west side of the runway.

Troopers said Chadd’s motorcycle then overturned and came to final rest just north of the area of impact.

According to the GSP, Chadd left the scene and was then transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center due to a severe injury to his hand.

Meanwhile, the GSP said Haley was transported to Stephens County Hospital.

Troopers said warrants have been taken on Chadd for criminal trespassing, reckless driving, and hit and run, while warrants were taken out on Haley for criminal trespassing and reckless driving.

Sheriff Shirley said that the motorcycles were performing stunts and drag racing on the runway, according to the preliminary investigation.

He added that authorities have been pursuing these motorcycles for weeks.

“We have had many calls from citizens about their speed on Oak Valley Road, Highway 106, and the By-pass and the Georgia State Patrol has been helping us try to catch them,” said Shirley.

The sheriff also criticized the other motorcycles he says that were there and left after the accident.
