Two Charged in Series of Thefts

Authorities have one person in custody and are looking for a second in connection to a series of thefts and burglaries from a Stephens County residence.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that deputies from his office began investigating a series of thefts and burglaries from a vacant residence on U.S. Highway 123 back on June 8.

“These occurred over a period of a couple of months,” said Shirley. “During that time, they were able to capture through video surveillance two suspects that were walking on the property and they were positively identified.”

Shirley said deputies arrested 50-year-old Thomas Clifford Burnette of Pressley Way in Toccoa and charged him with Burglary in the First Degree and Burglary in the Second Degree.

The sheriff said that at last report, Burnette was being held at the Stephens County Detention Center on a $28,000 bond.

Meanwhile, Shirley said deputies are currently looking for 48-year-old Douglas Mark Dodd of Rock Road in Mt. Airy, who is wanted on charges of Burglary in the First Degree and Burglary in the Second Degree in connection with this case.

Shirley said that anyone with information on the whereabouts of Dodd is asked to contact the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff, the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.
