Two Arrested in Toccoa Fight

Two people face charges after an incident at a Toccoa residence last week.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said that authorities arrested both 19-year-old Tefrem Demond Thornton of Toccoa and 17-year-old Jarrad Scot McCraw of Toccoa last week.

Jarrell said everything stems from an incident at a home on Julia Lane at about 6:30 p.m. last Thursday evening.

“Mr. Thornton and Mr. McCraw went to the residence uninvited,” said Jarrell. “Everyone was standing outside. When the individual who lives at the home and others who were invited went to go into the house, Thornton and McCraw kicked the door in.”

Jarrell said that they then began assaulting one individual and when a second individual tried to intervene, that person was stabbed in the arm.

Jarrell said the person that was stabbed was taken to Stephens County Hospital, received stitches, and was released.

According to police, Thornton and McCraw both face charges of Aggravated Assault, Battery, two counts of Cruelty of Children in the Third Degree, and 2nd degree Criminal Damage to Property.

Jarrell said the Cruelty to Children charges stem from the fact that were children in the residence at the time of the incident.

The chief went on to say that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was contacted regarding this incident and investigation.

“We felt it would be a conflict of interest because some of the individuals involved were related by marriage to officers of the Toccoa Police Department,” said Jarrell.

Jarrell said authorities are still investigating what caused the fight.
