Toys for Tots Campaign Wrapping Up

Another Toys for Tots campaign is wrapping up in Stephens County and northeast Georgia.

Local Toys for Tots Coordinator Don Alexander said that toy distributions and collections are pretty much coming to a close over the next several days.

As the campaign comes to a close, Alexander said he wants to dispel some misinformation regarding where donated toys to the Toys for Tots campaign go.

Alexander said he wants to make it clear that toys donated in Stephens County stay in Stephens County.

“Those toys go to our warehouse on Whitman Street and they are given to people who call in from Stephens County,” said Alexander.

He said the same is true in Franklin and Hart counties.

Alexander said they have had a very successful campaign again this year so far in northeast Georgia.

He said that as of last Friday, they have already provided toys to hundreds of families in multiple counties.

“Hart County, we did 574 kids already and down here, we are close to 600,” said Alexander.

Alexander said that toy collections are continuing throughout the area for Toys for Tots.

He said the program is in need of one particular age group.

“We are looking for girls age 10 to 15,” said Alexander. “We just cannot seem to get those kind of toys because they are too expensive. People are not leaving them in the box and I understand why.”

Alexander did say that Toys for Tots will be out again at the Toccoa Wal-Mart from 4 to 9 p.m. this coming Friday for one last major toy collection.

Toys for Tots is a program of the Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve that collects and distributes toys to children and families in need each holiday season.
