Toccoa Outlasts Elbert County in Three Hour Scorefest

The Toccoa Junior League All-Stars advanced to the championship round of the 3-team district 7 tournament with a 15-9 win over Elbert County in an elimination game Monday night in Hartwell.

Toccoa got off to a great start with six 1st inning runs aided by three Elbert County errors. After Elbert County cut the lead to 6-2, Toccoa added four more runs in the 3rd inning, and led 15-3 after four innings. Elbert County scored five runs in the top of the 5th inning but was held to just one run the rest of the way.

Thompson Bullard, Jasper Davenport, and Caden Hamilton had three RBI’s each to lead the Toccoa offense. Toccoa also got RBI’s from Eli Stonecypher, Konnor Brown, and Zach Brown.

Hamilton got the start for Toccoa and pitched one inning. Landry Williams pitched just over an inning in relief and Seth Stonecypher pitched the next 3 1/3 innings. Elbert County cut the lead to 15-9 and had the bases loaded, but Williams returned to the mound to get the next five outs without allowing another run.

Samuel Rucker led the Elbert County offense with three hits and Carson Eaves had 2 RBI’s. Brock Dye was the most effective pitcher for Elbert County allowing no runs and striking out six in the last 2 1/3 innings.

Toccoa will now face Hart County Tuesday night and will need to win to force a deciding game on Wednesday. Airtime on Tuesday night from Hartwell will be 6:45 P.M. with first pitch at 7 P.M. on WNEG.
