Toccoa Junior All Stars Drop Game 1 of Tournament, Face Elbert Tonight

The Toccoa Junior League All-Stars fought back but fell 4-3 to host Hart County on Saturday in the first game of the Junior League baseball district 7 tournament in Hartwell.

Hart County took a 4-0 lead to the 5th inning, but Toccoa cut the lead in half when Thompson Bullard leadoff with a single and scored on Konnor Brown’s double. After a Zack Brown single, Konnor Brown scored on Dylan Elrod’s fielder’s choice ground ball to cut the lead to 4-2.

Toccoa added another run in the 6th inning when Jasper Davenport reached on an error and scored on a Bullard single. Toccoa would eventually load the bases but did not score again.

Toccoa relief pitcher Ryan King got out of a bases loaded no outs jam in the bottom of the 6th with a strikeout and ground ball double play to give Toccoa momentum headed to the 7th, but Toccoa failed to score with two men on to end the game.

Bullard had two hits and Davenport reached base on all three at bats to lead the Toccoa offense. Hart County got RBI’s from Keegan Martin, Gabriel Pierce, and Kirkland Jones.

Axel Davis went 5 1/3 innings for Hart County to pick up the win and Martin got the last 4 outs for the save.

Davenport took the loss for Toccoa pitching 2 1/3 innings. King pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief.

With the loss, Toccoa will now face Elbert County in an elimination game in the three-team tournament tonight. WNEG will broadcast the game with airtime set for 6:45 P.M. and first pitch at 7 P.M.
