Toccoa City Commission Meeting Today

Toccoa City Commissioners have a busy day planned.

Today, city commissioners will meet for both a retreat and a regular meeting.

The retreat will begin at 12 p.m. and take place in the Mitchell Allen Meeting Room in downtown Toccoa.

During the retreat, the city commission will first look back at accomplishments by department during the year 2014.

Then, the commission will work on setting goals for the year ahead.

Commissioners will then meet at Toccoa City Hall at 5 p.m. for their regularly scheduled meeting.

During their 5 p.m. meeting, city commissioners are expected to consider a bid award and funding options for the Davidson Lake Dredging Project.

The commission opened bids for that project at its last meeting two weeks ago.

The city received four bids, ranging from a low bid of just over $1 million to a high bid of well over $4 million.

City commissioners unanimously voted to remand the two lowest bids to staff for review. The second low bid was just under $1.3 million.

Davidson Lake is one of Toccoa’s three sources of water for its water system.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said the project needs to be done because the reservoir is filling up with silt and needs to be dredged to gain capacity in the reservoir and remove pressure on the reservoir’s dam.

City commissioners are also scheduled to hear a report from Stephens County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin during today’s meeting.

Today’s 5 p.m. city commission meeting also allows time for public comment.
