Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies respond to a dog bite call.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas, it happened Wednesday afternoon.

“Wednesday afternoon, 911 dispatch gave a call to the deputies about a small child who had been bitten by a dog,” said Thomas. “Deputies arrived at Crane trailer park off of New Franklin Church Road and found that a 3-year-old boy had been bitten by a pit bull.”

Thomas said that the child had entered the yard where the dog was kept.

“The dog was on a chain in another yard and the child went over to where the dog was,” said Thomas. “The child received injuries to both his ears and a puncture wound to the top of the head.”

According to the report, the child was transported to Sacred Heart and then moved to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Thomas said the dog has been quarantined at this time.

“The dog was contained and transported to the animal hospital where he will be quarantined for 10 days,” said Thomas. “This is the first time anyone knows anything about the dog having bitten anybody.”

Other details surrounding the case have not yet been released and Thomas said the investigation continues.
