Strong Storm Strikes Toccoa

A strong storm moves through part of Toccoa and causes significant damage in some areas.

The storm moved through at about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

While it only resulted in about .07 inches of rain and some hail in the downtown area, the storm was much worse in other parts of town.

Specifically on Big A Road, high winds in the area of Ingles’ caused damage and power outages, including causing heavy roof damage to City Buffet that included at least part of the roof coming off.

There were also reports of numerous trees and limbs down and power lines down, especially in the Big A Road and Collins Road areas, as well as Roundtree Road, Stanley Drive, and Valley Drive.

During the late afternoon hours following the storm, Georgia Power was reporting over 1,000 outages in the Toccoa area.

That included a power outage that knocked WNEG Radio off of the air for a number of hours during the late afternoon and early evening hours Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, parts of Toccoa received pea-size hail.

There are no reports of injuries.
