A storm this afternoon in Stephens County causes some damage in areas.

The storm moved through during the noon hour.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that extremely high winds led to many fallen trees in the eastern side of Stephens County.

That includes the Shorewood area along Lake Hartwell and South Red Rock Road.

Shirley said at one Shorewood Circle home, an oak tree fell through the living and bedroom areas of a mobile home.

The sheriff said the husband and wife were inside the residence at the time.

According to Sheriff Shirley, both stated they were sitting in the living room riding out the storm when they heard an extreme loud noise at the same time a large oak tree came crashing through their roof missing them by inches.

Shirley said there were two other mobile homes where large trees fell on the roofs from the high winds but did not penetrate through the roof.

He said there were no reports of injuries.

At one point during the early afternoon, Hart EMC was reporting about 200 customers without power in Stephens County near Lake Hartwell, while there fewer than 100 outages reported in the city of Toccoa by Georgia Power.

As of 4 p.m., Georgia Power was only reporting a few outages in Toccoa, while Hart EMC was reporting about 170 outages still around Lakeland Drive and the East Silver Shoals Road area near the lake.
