Stephens Co. Softball Player Signs with Covenant College

A Stephens County High School athlete has signed a letter of intent to play softball in college.  Kelsey Westmoreland, daughter of Scottie and Melissa Westmoreland, will attend and play for Covenant College at Lookout Mountain, Georgia.  Kelsey will major in early childhood education, and she said why she chose Covenant College:

“I visited some other schools, but I visited Covenant about three or four times and every time I went, it just felt more and more like a place I could call home for the next four years,” said Westmoreland.

Kelsey played softball for the Lady Indians 9th through 11th grades.  She has been a member of the Jack City 18 & under travel team out of Gwinnett County for 2 years.  Coach Dillan Bailey said Kelsey did a good job playing catcher for his team.

“As a player, Kelsey isn’t your prototype catcher that’s built and tall,” said Bailey. “She’s actually a little bit smaller, but I would describer her as pretty feisty. There’s not a lot of runners that are willing to run on her.”

Covenant College is a Division 3 school and they have had a softball program for 10 years.  This past season, Covenant had 21 regular season wins which set a program record.
