Stephens Co. Gets CCRPI Scores

The Stephens County school system receives its CCRPI scores for 2014.

State education officials recently released the numbers and local school officials reviewed the numbers with the Board of Education Tuesday.

CCRPI stands for College and Career Ready Performance Index.

It is Georgia’s statewide accountability system that was implemented in 2012 to replace the No Child Left Behind Adequate Yearly Progress measurement, after the U.S. Department of Education granted Georgia’s waiver from No Child Left Behind.

The CCRPI measures schools and school districts on a 100-point scale, designed to help the public better understand how schools are performing in a more comprehensive manner than the pass/fail system previously in place under AYP.

Looking at the scores, Stephens County had a district-wide CCRPI score of 83.7, slightly down from last year’s 84.4.

As a system, Stephens County is well above the state score of 72.

Meanwhile, Stephens County’s elementary schools combined for a score of 86.3, down from last year’s 88.2, but nearly 14 points above the state elementary school average of 72.6.

All of the county’s elementary schools surpassed the state average score for the elementary level.

Big A Elementary had a CCRPI score of 89.3, while Eastanollee’s was 83.3, Toccoa was at 81.4, and Liberty was at 78.1.

Moving to the middle school level, Stephens County Middle School increased its CCRPI score to 94.2 in 2014 from 90.7 in 2013. The middle school also comes in 21 points over the state average of 73.2.

Finally, Stephens County High School’s 2014 CCRPI score was 70.1, down from 72.7 in 2013, but still above the state average for this year of 68.4.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said overall, the school system’s numbers were strong.

“I am very, very proud of our staff’s and students’ diligence in working with what is a tougher and tougher environment in this era of accountability,” said Dorsey. “We know that we have a lot of great people doing a lot of wonderful feats with some great kids.”

These scores are based on information from the 2013-2014 school year.
