Stephens Co. Commission Meeting Today

The Stephens County Commission is scheduled to consider a motion to re-instate funding for a state inmate work crew for litter pick-up at its meeting this morning.

Stephens County Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. today in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

Commissioners had cut funding for the litter pick-up crew from the Fiscal Year 2015 budget in what commissioners called an effort to save money and reduce as much as possible an increase in the millage rate.

However, Stephens County Commissioner Stanley London has proposed re-instating the funding to have a crew of state inmates provided to the county for the purpose of picking up litter from county roadways.

His proposal was tabled at the Stephens County Commission’s meeting three weeks ago.

Also during today’s 8:30 a.m. meeting, Stephens County Commissioners are scheduled to hold numerous planning and zoning public hearings at the start of the meeting, then take action on those items during the business meeting.

Stephens County Commissioners will begin their 8:30 a.m. meeting with the planning and zoning public hearings, then move into a work session to discuss items on the meeting agenda.

The business meeting where commissioners vote on agenda items will follow immediately after the conclusion of the work session.

Today’s Stephens County Commission meeting agenda also allows time for public comment.
