SCSO, TPD, GSP respond to two local incidents this morning

WNEG News is reporting this morning on two incidents involving law-enforcement officials this morning.

In one incident around 10 AM this morning, a vehicle pursuit that reportedly began in the area of The Pointe Church, skirted the Walmart parking lot and ended up in the Home Depot parking lot, resulted in a SCSO  vehicle apparently being struck and having to be towed from the location. Also, two Toccoa Police officers received injuries from glass when the window of their patrol vehicle was broken during the attempt to subdue the suspect.

No further details are available. The Stephens County Sheriffs Office was the lead agency and WNEG News has been unable to contact Sheriff Randy Shirley or obtain details from them as of yet.

I did, however, speak to Toccoa Chief of Police Jimmy Mize just moments ago. Toccoa Police as well as Georgia State Patrol officers responded as back up in the incident at SCSO request. Mize confirmed that the injuries to his officers were superficial injuries, and both officers are in good health. He did state that there were arrests made at the Home Depot site, but no further information is available at this moment.

Also, this morning, at approximately 11 a.m. , the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an aggressive driver on Midget Drive with the report of shots fired; the Toccoa Police Department and Georgia State Patrol also responded as back up in this incident.

We have no more details on this incident at the moment other than that the scene is cleared.

WNEG News will continue to try and contact Sheriff Randy Shirley to get details on both incidents and will update these as information becomes available.
