SCSO Makes Arrest in Jail Contraband Investigation

A woman faces charges after allegedly trying to sneak drugs into the Stephens County Jail.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said it comes after his office wrapped up an investigation that had been ongoing related to contraband being delivered to the Stephens County Jail.

“The investigation began after several articles of clothing were brought to the facility and left for an inmate,” said Shirley. “Jail personnel conducted a search of the items and prior to issuing them to the inmate, they located a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. This prompted an investigation and deputies and jail staff both found that the clothing had concealed a small amount of methamphetamine hidden inside the threading of the clothing.”

Shirley said deputies learned through the investigation that 33-year-old Shannon Robinson of Clayton had delivered the items to the jail.

Warrants were issued and Shirley said Robinson was arrested on Sunday.

She faces charges of Crossing of Guard Lines with Contraband and Distribution of Methamphetamine.

As of last report, Robinson was being held at the Stephens County Jail on a $15,100 bond.

Shirley said he is proud of the job his deputies and jail staff did in regards to this investigation.

“I hope that the arrest of this young lady will serve as a reminder to anyone else considering bringing illegal items into the jail; we at the Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate it,” said Shirley. “You will be arrested and prosecuted.”

The sheriff went on to say that additional charges may still be forthcoming.
