SCSO, Drug Task Force Announce Arrests

Two separate drug investigations in Stephens County lead to multiple drug arrests.

First, agents of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, the Georgia Department of Corrections Canine Unit, and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office arrested numerous individuals on May 1.

Authorities said that 35-year-old Brandy Handberry and 42-year-old Robert Handberry, both of Toccoa, were arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute.

Meanwhile, authorities also said that 20-year-old Jahavin Nathaniel Spencer of Toccoa was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of Certain Crimes and 21-year-old Stephen Kordell Hunter was arrested and charged with Posession of Marijuana Less Than One Ounce.

According to authorities, these arrests resulted from citizen complaints of drug activity at a Stephens Drive residence.

Elsewhere, authorities arrested 42-year-old Sterling Sebastian Williams of Toccoa back on March 30 and charged him with Sales of Cocaine in an arrest stemming from citizen complaints of drug sales from area motels.

Authorities said that task force agents and members of the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office seized methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, digital scales, and drug packaging materials.

That investigation continues.

Meanwhile, a second investigation led to an arrest on Wednesday on drug charges in Stephens County.

On Wednesday, an investigation by the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office on Highway 17 in Stephens County resulted in the arrest of 25-year-old Vontravious L. Newman of Toccoa.

Newman was charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.

Authorities said that task force agents and members of the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office seized about 1/2 pound of marijuana, digital scales, and a box of plastic sandwich bags.

That investigation is also ongoing.
