Scoot Teasley Headlines Ida Cox Festival Saturday

The Annual Ida Cox Music Concert Series in downtown Toccoa is moving into week three of the 2024 season after opening with Toccoa Jazz on June 1 and continuing with a large crowd last weekend for Fleetwood Mac Tribute artist Lara Smith of Elberton.

Weather permitting, the concerts are held each Saturday night from 7 to 10 p.m. along Doyle Street in downtown Toccoa. In case of rain, the concerts are moved indoors to the Schaefer Center.Either way, the Ida Cox concerts are free to attend.

Each Saturday features a different artist, beer, wine, and food served on the street, and attendees are invited to enjoy dinner or a sweet treat from any of the downtown restaurants or bakeries, or stop in for a shopping visit at any of the open businesses that remain open for the event.

Attendees are reminded to bring a lawn chair or other seating, as no seating is provided. The 2024 season will come to an end on August 31 with Toccoa native and Series favorite, Milkshake Mayfield.

Tomorrow, June 15, Toccoa is also celebrating Juneteenth. There will be events throughout the day, including a vendor market, activities and entertainment. The day will conclude with the Ida Cox Concert featuring Scoot Teasley.

Born and raised in Toccoa, Teasley has been immersed in the world of music since his earliest days. With a deep-rooted passion for rhythm and melody, he initially found his groove behind the drum kit and in the church pews fostering a lifelong love of music. Drawing inspiration from artists like Chris Stapleton and Tyler Childers, Teasley says he is on a mission to carve out his unique niche within the world of country music.

In late February, WNEG News reported that Toccoa native Scoot Teasley had recently released a new country music EP.

Teasley’s four-track EP, Country Back, which is now available on all streaming platforms, features songs written by Teasley, who collaborated with songwriters Dave Brainard, Garrett Jacobs, Ben Snelling, Jon Stark, Mason Thornley and Chris Utley on the project. The first song on the EP, “Country Back” highlights Teasley’s nostalgia for Toccoa.

Teasley currently splits his time between Georgia and Nashville, actively writing new music and performing with his band.

Country Back is now available on Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, Apple Music and other music streaming services. For more information, visit scootteasleymusic.com.

Also, as reported by WNEG News on June 5, The Toccoa Main Street Program is conducting open video auditions for Ida Cox Opening Acts. The auditions have already begun with entries being accepted via online submission emailed to Special Events Coordinator Misty Richardson at [email protected].

Under entry guidelines, any age singer or musician can submit a 2-3 minute video to [email protected]  by June 20th to be considered, along with the entrant’s name, age, address, music genre, performing experience and reason for auditioning.

Richardson says regional applicants are preferred, and stressed that no explicit lyrics are allowed.

Selected performers will play as an opening act in a 45 minute set at Ida Cox on a selected date for $75.

Richardson told WNEG News, “We have a few opener positions for our 2024 season and we are really interested in local, organic talent. We thought that having open, social media auditions would be a great way to harvest performers from our area.”

Entry forms are available at idamusicseries.com or on the Main Street Toccoa Facebook page.
