SCMS Basketball Into Conference Tournament Play

Conference tournament play is underway for the Stephens County Middle School basketball teams.

All of the games are at the middle school and play started on Wednesday.

In the first round of the region tournament this week, the Stephens County Middle School 8th grade girls beat Elbert County, 32-26.

Brooklyn Deshazer and Mary Alice Knight each scored nine points and Trinity Howard added six points.

That moved the 8th grade Lady Rebels into the tournament semi-finals against Hart County on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

The Stephens County Middle School 7th grade boys played Franklin County yesterday afternoon. We do not have a score yet on that game.

Meanwhile, the Stephens County 7th grade girls will play Hart at 10 a.m. on Saturday and the 8th grade boys are scheduled for Saturday at about 1:45 p.m.

The 8th grade boys clinched the regular season region championship this week with a 42-39 win over Madison County. Nigel Green had 17 points in that game and Mucha Trimer had 16 points.

The 7th grade championships will be Monday starting at 4:30 p.m. and the 8th grade championships will be Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m.
