SCHS Powder Puff Game Benefits Special Olympics

Stephens County High School students come together to have fun and raise money for a good cause.

Friday night, Stephens County High School hosted its first “Powder Puff” football game at the Reservation.

All of the proceeds from the “Powder Puff” game benefited Stephens County Special Olympics.

Stephens County High School student Kaitlyn Phillips helped to organize the game.

She said it was a matter of getting everybody together for a good time.

“We got everybody together and got the word out and got some of my friends to pick up teams,” said Phillips. “Everybody came out and had fun tonight.”

Phillips went on to say that all of the money raised will go to help Special Olympic athletes in Stephens County participate in their competitions.

“Special Olympics is really important to me because I love helping people and special needs children and they inspire me to do more,” said Phillips.

“Powder Puff” football games are flag football or touch football games between girls, in this case, flag football.

Meanwhile, a group of male students took their turn as cheerleaders.

Phillips said it was a great experience to be under the lights on a Friday night.

“It was crazy,” said Phillips. “I never thought I would be out on the field playing football, but I went out there and had so much fun. It was an amazing experience.”

Organizers said they were still determining how much was raised during Friday night’s game.
