SCHS Heading to Monroe Area for Region Football Tonight

The Stephens County Indian football team will look to continue its early season success when it heads on the road tonight for another region showdown.

Stephens County travels to Monroe Area High School tonight to take on the Purple Hurricanes.

Monroe Area is winless this year, coming into tonight’s game at 0-4 overall and 0-1 in Region 8-AAAA.

Last week, the Purple Hurricanes lost to Madison County 19-6.

Meanwhile, Stephens County enters tonight’s game with a 3-1 overall record and a 1-0 region record.

The Indians beat North Hall last week 48-19 behind 41 first half points and more than 600 yards of total offense.

Stephens County will also be looking to break a two-game losing streak against Monroe Area, having lost last year to the Purple Hurricanes at home by a score of 47-0.

Indians’ Defensive Coordinator Rusty Grimmett said that Monroe Area has a lot of new faces, but remains a very fast football team.

“If they get seams or get on the corner, they have a chance to break a big one, so we have to try to contain that speed,” said Grimmett. “They did lose a lot of really great players last year and I think they are looking for an identity right now. They have struggled a little bit. They have not won the number of games they are used to, but they have speed and that is something we have to deal with.”

Kick-off from Monroe Area High School is set for 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Coverage begins on AM 630 WNEG at 6 p.m. with Tommy Palmer’s Countdown to Kick-off. Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. and live pre-game coverage from Monroe Area High School starts at 7:15 p.m.
