SCHS Gets Senior Night Hoops Sweep

The Stephens County High School varsity basketball teams pick up a big sweep on Senior Night at the Currahee Arena.

Friday, the Indians and Lady Indians both beat North Oconee in two close games.

First, the Lady Indians fell behind 14-0 to start the game, but kept chipping away and beat North Oconee in the end, 53-50.

Seniors Lexie Cash, Emily Mote, and Adjai Howard combined for 30 second half points to lead the comeback.

Mote led the Lady Indians with 12, while Howard had 10 and Cash and Mya Cleveland had eight points each.

The Lady Indians moved to 11-11 overall and 3-3 in the region with the win.

Moving to the boys’ game, Stephens County saw North Oconee come all the way back from 17 points down to take the lead in the fourth quarter.

However, the Indians had one last run in them and edged the Titans, 67-62.

DeAndre Singleton had 20 points for Stephens County, while Tyriq Combs added 14 and Tay Jones chipped in with 10.

Ethan Dobberstein had 32 points for North Oconee.

The win moves the Indian boys to 7-15 overall and 2-4 in the region.

Eight Stephens County basketball seniors were honored Friday night. They were Chris Jones, Quentin Montgomery, Isaiah Mighell, Lexie Cash, Adjai Howard, Nikelsha Owens, Emily Mote, and Bryson Addison.

Stephens County does still have one more home game on Tuesday against Johnson.

Tip-off is 6 p.m. Tuesday for the girls’ game with the boys’ game to follow.
