The three-team, round-robin tournament involving Stephens, Franklin, and Hart County High Schools took place Saturday at the Reservation.

Stephens County defeated both Franklin and Hart to take the tourney title.

First, the Indian boys defeated Hart County, 7-2.

Scoring for the Indians against Hart was Jared Lee, Jacob Oliver, Jered Brown, Jarod Guadelupe, JohnMark Hendrix, Kenzie Nicholson, and Jake Murray.

Then an hour later, the Indians beat Franklin County, 5-1.

Cesar Avalos scored twice for Stephens County against Franklin County, while the Indians also got goals from Jared Lee, Jacob Oliver, and Austin Garcia.

Indian Boys’ Soccer Coach Derek Demmler said he cannot stress how proud he is of the team, adding all season they have been dedicated to the team and each other, playing hard and leaving it all out on the field.

Hart County beat Franklin County, 3-2, to take second place in Saturday’s tournament, which was the first tournament between the three schools.

Demmler said that they felt it would be a good idea and a fun way to spend a Saturday playing soccer against local rivals and building a relationship with those schools.

Hart County is scheduled to host the tournament next year.

Meanwhile, the Stephens County High School boys’ soccer team is now 4-6 overall on the year and 1-5 in the region.

Demmler said the weather hurt early in the year, but adds the team is finding its groove heading towards the final three games of the season.

Next up for the Indian boys’ soccer team is White County on April 14 in a region match at the Reservation.

That is the annual cancer awareness pink game.
