Rumsey Leads Indians Past Knights

Evan Rumsey threw a one-hitter at the Johnson Knights Monday night at the Reservation and the Stephens County Indians came away with a 3-1 win.

Rumsey gave up an unearned run in the top of the first inning when lead-off hitter Isaiah Torres reached on an error and came around to score.

Johnson did not get another base runner until the fifth and got their only hit in the sixth inning, only to see it wiped out by a double play.

Ben Cleveland, Tristen Powell, and Dylan Simpson all had base hits to bring home runs for Stephens County, who managed just five hits against Johnson pitching.

Stephens County is now 8-5 on the season overall and 3-2 in Region 8-AAAA play.

Johnson drops to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in the region.

The Indians will make the return trip to Oakwood for the second in the two-game series between these teams on Wednesday.

First pitch on Wednesday is set for 5:55 p.m. and air time on AM 630 WNEG and wnegradio.com is set for 5:45 p.m.
