Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner, Gospel Concert on Sunday

An annual Thanksgiving holiday tradition takes place again this week in Stephens County.

It is the annual Sandra Harbin Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner and Wendell Sherman Memorial Gospel Concert.

The men of Friendship Baptist Church organize the events each year.

They are coming up on Sunday at the Toccoa-Stephens County Boys and Girls Club on Whitman Street in Toccoa.

One of the organizers, Randolph Sherman, said the dinner gets everything started on Sunday afternoon.

“The dinner starts at 1 p.m. for senior citizens 55 or older,” said Sherman. “They just need to pick up a plate.”

Carry-outs are provided for those who need, said Sherman.

Sherman went on to say that they will have something special for the first 100 seniors that dine in on Sunday.

“We will be having a gift bag for the first 100 seniors that dine in,” said Sherman. “We look forward to everybody coming. I want to thank all of the supporters. I really appreciate (their support).”

As for the gospel concert, Sherman said that will follow the dinner on Sunday.

“It will start around 2:30 p.m.,” said Sherman. “Everybody is invited to that event.”

The Sandra Harbin Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner is free for seniors 55 and over and the Wendell Sherman Memorial Gospel Concert is free for everybody to attend.

Again, both take place Sunday afternoon at the Toccoa-Stephens County Boys and Girls’ Club on Whitman Street in Toccoa.
