Police Still Investigating Colbert Murder; Three Other Open Homicides Dating Back to ’02

More than a month later, authorities are still investigating the death of Tomas Colbert.

The 21-year-old Colbert was shot and later died from his wounds at a Falls Road apartment early on the morning of February 7.

No arrests have been made to this point in the shooting.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said his department is still following up on leads connected to the case.

“We still have several individuals we are trying to locate and interview,” said Jarrell. “That is about all I can say.”

The Colbert murder is one of four open homicide cases that the Toccoa Police Department currently has on the books.

Jarrell said the first one dates back to January 2002, when authorities found Anthony Dogan dead at an apartment on the 300 block of South Pond Street in Toccoa.

Then in March 2011, 46-year-old Robert Lee Simmons, Jr. of Toccoa was found dead by a family member at the Glendale Apartment Complex.

The other open homicide case occurred on the morning of March 18, 2014, when 28-year-old Montevious Flentall was found dead at his home on Pageland Drive in Toccoa.

Jarrell said that the police department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation continue to keep all four of these homicide investigations open and active, talking regularly about the cases.

“We discuss these cases at least once a month,” said Jarrell. “When anyone new to the police department or anyone new comes into the detective division, we brief them on the case also. What we are hoping is that we are able to work a case somewhere with something unrelated to these crimes that will help give us another angle for some additional information that we need to solve these.”

Jarrell said that if anyone has information on any of these incidents, they should contact authorities.

“Anything someone hears, even if it just in passing, that has anything to do with these cases, we are asking them to please come forward,” said Jarrell. “There are families that need closure.”

Anyone with information on any of these cases should call the Toccoa Police Department at 706-282-3277 or the GBI Tip Line at 1-800-597-8477.
