One Dead, Others Injured After Tuesday Accident

Authorities said one person is dead and two others were air lifted with injuries after a three-car accident in Stephens County Tuesday.

It happened Tuesday morning on Georgia Highway 106 near Law House Road.

Georgia State Patrol Toccoa Post Commander Sergeant First Class Chad Johnson said a 1999 Toyota Tacoma driven by 21-year-old Reed Edward Haga of Carnesville was traveling north on Highway 106 and crossed the centerline into the southbound lane.

Johnson said Haga’s vehicle then struck a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 32-year-old Candice Sanders Huot of Toccoa head-on, as Huot drove southbound on Highway 106.

According to Johnson, a third vehicle, a 2012 Chevrolet pick-up driven by 59-year-old Bruce Warren Gay of Carnesville, was traveling behind Huot’s vehicle and was unable to stop for the sudden collision in front of him and his vehicle struck Huot’s vehicle.

Johnson said Haga was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, Johnson said Huot and a 2-year-old male passenger were both airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Johnson said the third driver, Gay, was treated at the scene and not transported.
