Minnie Louise Bowers

Minnie Louise Bowers passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024 in Atlanta, surrounded by her family.  She was 86 years old.

Louise was born on May 18, 1938 in Franklin County, Georgia to late parents James Collins Kirby and Beulah O’Kelly Kirby.  After graduating from Franklin County High School, she moved to Atlanta, GA to further her education and graduated with a Business Degree from Southern Business University.  She went to work for Family Publishing Services Incorporation following her degree.  On a blind date, Louise met her future husband Alfred Douglas Bowers, Sr. who preceded her in death.  Setting up roots in Tucker, GA, she stepped away from her career to devote her time to raising her family.  In 1979, she went back to work for Gulf Oil/Chevron, Executone, Contel Cellular, and Verizon Wireless until her retirement.  Although Louise had lived in Tucker for many years, she remained a lifetime member of Broad River Baptist Church.

Family members include her children Deborah Reich married to Steve Reich, Donna Poulos married to Jason Poulos, and Douglas Bowers, Jr.; her brother Lanier Kirby married to Joyce Kirby; grandchildren and step-grandchildren Nick Poulos, Alyssa Poulos, Ben Reich, Evan and Sarah Reich; great-grandchild Solomon Reich; and four nieces.  She is preceded in death by her half-sister Frances Carter and step-granddaughter Dana Reich.

Some knew her as Louise, some as Mom, and some as Nana.  To know her was to know kindness from a full, giving heart.  One of her favorite pastimes was gardening, something she did for her own fulfillment and happiness.  To dedicate one’s time to loving and nurturing life is exemplary of her character.  She now rests in the gardens of Heaven, tending to God’s roses, dahlias and violets.  Her family will miss her profoundly.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 12 noon until 1:30 pm Thursday, June 20, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at two o’clock from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary Thursday, June 20, 2024 with the Rev. Don Blalock officiating.

Burial will follow at Broad River Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org or the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org.
