March of Dimes set for Saturday

The annual March of Dimes is this Saturday in Toccoa. Something new this year is a 5k run/walk starting at Boyd Field. March of Dimes Co-Coordinator Leon Womack explains “registration starts at 9 just like the sign up for the March for Babies”; says Womack “The race starts at 10. The route will be past the Baptist Church on to Tugalo Street and all of the way down almost to where you turn off toward the airport, back up by the Baptist Church and down to Boyd Field.”

The registration fee for the 5K run/walk is $25. Womack says it is open to everyone. “We would love for people to come out and run or walk. We have people that push their strollers. Just come out and have a great time as part of the March of Dimes.”

Of course, the March of Dimes will continue to be the major part of the day’s activities. Womack shares the route for the March. “The March will begin one minute after the 5K”; says Womack “ It will go up Tugalo, by Paul Anderson Park, take a left on Rosedale, then one block and a left on Greer, and another block and left on Pauline Street where water will be available.”

From there the March will make its way back to Boyd Field where Womack says there will be many activities for the family. “We have a bouncy house and slide for the children. There will be face painting, and organizations giving things away. Just a great day with a lot of fun.”

Womack says Domino’s will also be there with pizzas for the participants. He says it is a great opportunity to support the March of Dimes and its cause to support premature babies. “Like all organizations fundraising is not quite as good as you would like it to be. We receive great support, but can always use more to reach our goal.”

Again, the March of Dimes Walk for Babies, and 5K run/walk is this Saturday at Boyd Field behind Toccoa Elementary School with registration beginning at 9 A.M. and March and 5K beginning at 10 A.M.
