An elderly Lilburn man is behind bars in Franklin County after a routine traffic stop on Interstate 85 revealed a cache of illegal drugs.

It happened on Tuesday, September 8th.

Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said it started when motorists traveling southbound on I-85 called 911 to report a vehicle weaving all over the Interstate.

“Deputies observed a vehicle weaving all over the roadway and removed the driver from the vehicle. He was found to be intoxicated. He was placed under arrest. He is identified as 71-year old John Edwin Hecks from Lilburn, GA,” Thomas said.

Thomas said deputies then received permission to search Hecks’ vehicle.

According to Thomas, that is when deputies uncovered all sorts of drugs.

“Deputies found Hecks in possession of 2.2 ounces of cocaine, 13.2 ounces of THC butter, 109 hits of LSD, six LSD-laced gummy bears, 43 methamphetamine tablets, 230 unknown tablets, and a large sum of cash,” Thomas said.

Hecks was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, drugs not in original container, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and possession of schedule 1, II and IV drugs.

He remains in the Franklin County Detention Center without bond.
