Lake Hartwell Spring Clean-up Scheduled

Meanwhile, Lake Hartwell is also gearing up for some Spring cleaning.

A Lake Hartwell cleanup initiative, “Clean Up, Green Up”, is occurring from April 18 to April 25.

The Savannah District Corps of Engineers’ Hartwell Lake Office and the Lake Hartwell Association are collaborating on this effort.

The Corps said that the campaign serves as a “spring cleaning” of the shoreline and islands.

In keeping with tradition, sponsors encourage all visitors to adopt an area of shoreline or an island to keep clean year-round.

Corps officials remind volunteers to dispose of trash in authorized containers, such as public trash collection locations provided by the counties surrounding the lake.

According to the Corps, additional containers will be available April 18 to April 25 at a number of locations as part of the clean-up.

Those include Clemson Marina in Oconee County, South Carolina and the Hartwell Marina and the Harbor Light Marina in Hart County.

Additionally, the Corps said two dumpster locations will be available April 24 and April 25 in Oconee County at Mullins Ford and Fair Play recreation areas.

At the conclusion, organizers say they invite participants to one of the five marinas located on Lake Hartwell on April 25 to visit with Corps park rangers and LHA representatives with all participants receiving a gift of appreciation.

Those interested should call the Hartwell Lake Office at 888-893-0678 for details on how to obtain supplies and register to sign up.
