Investigation Complete into Habersham Shooting Last Month

A fatal shooting incident that left two people dead in eastern Habersham County last month has been ruled a “murder-suicide,” according to a report last Friday in the Northeast Georgian.

The shooting took place on March 25 on Key Road, off of Dick’s Hill Parkway in Habersham County, near the Stephens County line.

Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell told the paper that an investigation has concluded that 77-year-old Hershel Key shot a rifle across the road and hit 68-year-old Ronald Ramey.

The two men were neighbors.

According to the Northeast Georgian’s report, Terrell said that after shooting Ramey, Key went back into his house, retrieved a shotgun and took his own life.

The Northeast Georgian reports that Key’s body was found behind his residence and that Ramey died from his injuries after being taken to Habersham Medical Center.

Terrell told the Northeast Georgian that prior to the shooting, the men had engaged in an apparent dispute.
