Indians Beat North Hall in Region Gridiron Opener

Stephens County opens region play with a win.

The Indians ran up more than 600 yards of total offense and 41 first-half points on their way to a 48-19 win over North Hall on Friday at the Reservation.

Stephens County Head Coach Frank Barden said that he is pleased with the way the team played and started its region schedule.

“I am proud of our guys,” said Barden. “I am proud of the way they prepared this week and went out and took care of business. They can enjoy it tonight and this weekend and then we have to come back in on Monday and go to work and get ready for the next one.”

Indian quarterback Mason Long threw for more than 250 yards in the first half and tossed four touchdown passes.

Isiah Mighell caught three of those, reeling in scoring passes of 34, 24, and 16 yards.

Brandon Ballenger also caught a six-yard touchdown pass.

Long also added a 47-yard touchdown run in the first half and Desmond Wheeler also scored on a 12-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

In the second half, Stephens County’s Jackson Bell threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Donte Thomas to wrap up the scoring for Stephens County.

North Hall got touchdown runs in the second half of 1 yard from Drew Atha, 2 yards from Maddox Turner, and 36 yards from Jack Brown.

With the win, Stephens County moves to 3-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in the region.

North Hall drops to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in region play.

Stephens County is on the road next Friday night at Monroe Area.

In other region action, North Oconee beat Chestatee 51-7 and Madison County beat Monroe Area 19-6.

Elsewhere around the area, Franklin County edged Banks County 22-21, Habersham Central lost to Alpharetta 52-3, and Hart County beat Elbert County 19-7.
