Stephens County sweeps Madison County in varsity basketball play Friday on the road.
In the girls’ game, Stephens County fell behind early, but a big fourth quarter propelled the Lady Indians to a 59-52 win. Stephens County trailed by double digits in the first half. However, the Lady Indians outscored the Lady Red Raiders 23-12 in the final eight minutes to get their first win of the year.
Mya Cleveland had 15 points, Charity Major had 14 points, and Keocia Walker added 12 for Stephens County. Nekeia Brown had 21 points for Madison County.
The Lady Indians are now 1-3 on the season, while Madison County falls to 2-2.
In the boys’ game, Stephens County withstood a late charge from the Red Raiders to pick up a 57-53 win.
Kamichi Fleming had 18 points to lead the Indians, while Cody Helgeland added 16 points, including five 3-pointers. T.J. Skelton had 16 points to lead the Red Raiders.
The Indian boys are now 3-1 on the season, while Madison County drops to 0-4.
Stephens County returns home Tuesday to host Chestatee. Air time Tuesday on AM 630 WNEG and wnegradio.com is set for 5:45 p.m.
Just a reminder … the game originally scheduled for today between Stephens and Franklin counties has been moved to Friday, December 21.
In JV action, the Stephens County JV girls lost to Madison County 27-26 and the Stephens County JV boys beat Madison County 40-36.
