GSP Releases Details of Wednesday Accident

Authorities have released details of an accident Wednesday at the intersection of the Toccoa By-pass and Memorial Drive in Stephens County.

The accident occurred at 2:46 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport driven by 73-year-old Betty Parker Hart of Carnesville was traveling eastbound on Memorial Drive, while a 1994 Honda Accord LX driven by 18-year-old Kayla Joy Lawton of Carnesville was traveling northbound on the by-pass in the right lane.

In its report, the GSP states that Hart failed to yield while attempting to cross over the By-pass.

The report goes on to say that the Accord then struck the Explorer in the right side with its front.

That caused the Explorer to overturn onto its right side facing north on Memorial Drive.

Meanwhile, the Accord came to a final rest in the southbound left turn lane on the By-pass.

Neither driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

According to its report, the GSP remained on scene until 3:56 p.m.

Both vehicles were totaled in the accident, according to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley.
