GDOT Limiting Lane Closures For Easter

The Georgia Department of Transportation is planning to limit lane closures across the state this weekend for the Easter holiday.

At a minimum, the Georgia DOT said it will limit lane closures on interstate highways and state routes from 9 p.m. tonight through midnight on Sunday.

These times will be extended in some locales over the coming weekends around the state as Georgia readies itself for travelers for not just Easter, but also for Spring Break, the Masters golf tournament, and the start of Atlanta Braves baseball.

DOT officials noted that even though lane closures are limited, there could still be lane closures for traffic accidents or for emergency maintenance issues.

Officials said drivers need to plan ahead and be patient on the highways, buckle up, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan travel routes ahead of time.

Drivers are also reminded by the DOT to slow down, stay alert, and take every extra precaution to protect yourself and your passengers while on the highways.

For updated information about travel conditions on Georgia’s interstates and state routes, the Department of Transportation advises travelers to call 511 or visit www.511ga.org before heading out.

Meanwhile as a reminder, both Toccoa City Hall and Stephens County Government Offices are closed today in observance of Good Friday.

In the city of Toccoa, routes for garbage and recyclables scheduled to be picked up today will be picked up on Monday, March 28.

Commercial garbage will be picked up as usual, but yard waste and other items will not be picked up.
