Former Sen. Nunn Stops in Stephens Co.

With Election Day now just 24 hours away, candidates in the U.S. Senate race in Georgia continue to stump for votes.

Former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn stopped in Toccoa last Thursday.

His daughter, Michelle Nunn, is running for U.S. Senate against David Perdue.

Nunn served for 24 years in the U.S. Senate.

He said the biggest change he has seen in Washington, D.C. is the dysfunction in government.

Nunn said for things to happen and improve, people are going to have to work together.

“People at the local level have to make things work,” said Nunn. “If you are a parent-teacher organization or church committee or anything else, you do not walk in, bang your fist, and say ‘This is the way we are going to do it.’ You try to persuade people, you try to listen to what they have to say, and you end up making compromises. That is what is missing Washington right now. It is not ‘my way or the highway.’ It is listening to the other side and trying to find common ground to move the country forward.”

Meanwhile, David Perdue is also on the campaign trail before Election Day.

He is conducting a fly-around tour across many areas of the state today with Governor Nathan Deal.

Stops include Macon, Albany, Columbus, Thomasville, Savannah, Augusta, and Atlanta.

Amanda Swafford is the Libertarian candidate in the U.S. Senate race in Georgia.

Polls in Stephens County are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Stephens County Senior Center.

There is no voting today at the Government Building.
