Fire Wednesday at Clarkesville Huddle House

Nobody was hurt after a fire Wednesday at a Clarkesville restaurant.

Clarkesville Fire Chief Jerry Palmer said that Clarkesville fire crews responded to the Huddle House on Washington Street in Clarkesville at about 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Palmer said that when crews arrived, they found flames coming from a roof vent as well as the area around the grill.

He said crews made entry and quickly contained the blaze.

According to Palmer, the damage was confined to the structure immediately adjacent to the area of origin and to the hood vent system.

The Georgia State Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to determine the exact cause and area of origin for the fire.

However, Palmer said that upon initial investigation, it appears the blaze started with a grill area malfunction, then a possible malfunction of the hood vent extinguishing system.

Clarkesville fire crews were assisted by crews from Habersham County Fire and the Demorest Fire Department.
