Early Voting Ends Friday for Elections in Toccoa, Martin

stephens county govt buildingEarly voting wraps up today for municipal elections in Toccoa and Martin.

Hours today for early voting are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It is taking place in Room 102 on the ground floor of the Stephens County Government Building in downtown Toccoa.

Only registered voters who live within the city limits of Toccoa are eligible to vote in the Toccoa election and only registered voters who live in the Martin city limits can vote in the Martin municipal election.

Voters in Toccoa are casting ballots in a referendum on whether to allow Sunday sales of alcohol by the drink for on-site consumption.

Meanwhile, Martin voters are selecting two council members.

It is a three-person race as incumbents Harold Alexander and Mark Gearhart are running, as is challenger Diane Yow Cole.

As of 1 p.m. Thursday, 224 people had voted in Toccoa’s election and 17 had voted in Martin’s election, according to election officials.

Today is also the last day that election officials can mail out paper absentee ballots.

Those ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. on Election Day, which is this coming Tuesday, November 3.

To request a paper absentee ballot, go to the Stephens County Registrar and Probate Court’s Office on the ground floor of the Stephens County Government Building in downtown Toccoa or call 706-886-8954.

Voters who do not vote early or choose to vote via the paper, mail-in ballot will have to wait until Tuesday to cast their ballots.
