Driver Charged in Wednesday Morning Accident

A one-vehicle accident Wednesday morning in Stephens County sends the driver to the hospital.

It occurred just prior to 6:30 a.m. on Georgia Highway 17 at Old Mill Road.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, 32-year-old Christopher Sewell of Toccoa was driving a 1998 Chevy Blazer south on Highway 17 when troopers say he lost control while negotiating a curve.

The GSP said the Blazer then went off the west shoulder of the road and the report states Sewell overcorrected before the Blazer overturned several times and ended up in the roadway on its left side.

Troopers reported that Sewell was transported by Stephens County EMS to Stephens County Hospital with what are described as non-incapacitating injuries.

According to the GSP, Sewell was charged with DUI and Failure to Maintain Lane.

Authorities said that there were no other vehicles involved in the wreck and the Blazer did not have any passengers in it.
