Buford Sweeps SCHS Hoops in Toccoa

The Buford girls’ and boys’ basketball teams kept their undefeated region records intact Thursday night as both defeated Stephens County in a region doubleheader at the Currahee Arena.

In the girls’ game, Buford ran off 27 points in the first quarter and raced to a 70-24 win over the Lady Indians.

Rachel Dobbs hit her first eight three-point shots and led all scorers with 24 points.

Tory Ozment had 16 points for the Lady Wolves.

Kaitlan Knight and Tykia Thompson each had five points to lead the Lady Indians.

Stephens County’s girls are now 2-3 in the region.

Meanwhile, the Stephens County boys led early, but fell behind in the third quarter and lost to Buford, 59-50.

Alex Jones had 16 points to lead the Wolves with Sahil Patel chipping in with 14.

Deundra Singleton led the Indians with 11 points, nine of them in the second half.

The loss was the first in the region for the Indian boys, who are now 4-1 in Region 8-AAAA.

Stephens County basketball returns to action tonight at North Oconee.

The girls’ game starts at 7 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow.
