Board of Education Working on Priority List for E-SPLOST

The Stephens County Board of Education had a work session last Thursday to discuss the E-SPLOST priority list for 2018.

Superintendent Bryan Dorsey made a formal announcement to the board that they need to get the priority list ready and decide what items will be on it.

He mentioned a few things that had been considered in the past, including CTAE facilities among other things.

“As we start developing our priorities, some of the things we’ve talked about over time- a big one was CTAE stuff, another one was things like HVAC and carpets,” said Dorsey. “But we’ll start working on that list, and if you could give me feedback from things you’ve heard from staff and things that you see, that’ll help us in the development of that.”

Dorsey said that the board will be working on this list for the next few months.

“We will begin officially, not only developing those priorities, but which timelines those will hit at,” said Dorsey. “We’ll be working on that very diligently in these next few months.”

The board will hold a regularly scheduled meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. During this meeting, the board will be asked to approve a resolution plan that was suggested by the State Department’s Review Team.

Dorsey said that this 5-year plan includes 32 million dollars’ worth of needs, with the state paying for about 6 million.

“Of course, in that plan it talks about 32 million dollar’s worth of needs of which the state would pay for about six of,” said Dorsey. “So as we’ve been telling everybody, this E-SPLOST was a big deal for us to get passed because we certainly have a lot of needs. Those are things that they would think need to be over the next five years. I think we will have to have about a seven-year plan to address everything.”
Again, the regularly scheduled meeting will be held tonight at 5:30 p.m.
