2024 Stephens County Fireworks Display and Independence Day Celebration is this Friday

Next Thursday, July 4, is the 248th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, and this  Friday, June 28, Toccoa and Stephens County residents and visitors can get a jump start on the festivities at the Stephens County Fireworks Display and Independence Day Celebration.

Hosted by the Stephens County Parks and Recreation Department, the longstanding celebration will be held at the Roselane ballfields, located near the southeast portion of the Recreation Complex off of Rose Lane in Toccoa. 

According to Parks and Recreation Director of Programs Cheryl Stinnett, the Rose Lane Park Concession Stand will open at 6 p.m., and additional food options will be available for purchase, including Dippin Dots,  Chick-Fil-A and snow  cones. In addition, the Splash Pad will have extended hours Friday, opening on a normal schedule at 11 a.m., but remaining open until 8:30 p.m., and the Park playgrounds will remain open during the celebration.

Typically, citizens start to gather around 6:30 p.m, and the fireworks display will begin just after dark, around 9 p.m. 93.1 FM and AM630 WNEG will broadcast live reports from the Recreation Department leading up to the start of the fireworks display and then, during the fireworks display, WNEG will broadcast patriotic music.

Remember to bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.

This year’s Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks show is sponsored by  Piedmont Contracting, LLC., Mobile Homes Direct, Talan Properties and Georgia Farm Bureau.

Currently, the National Weather Service forecast for Friday calls for a slight chance of showers between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming east southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Friday night’s forecast shows a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 5 a.m., then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

The Stephens County Fireworks Display and Independence Day Celebration will move ahead, rain or shine, with contingencies for severe weather to be announced if needed.
