Woman arrested after setting fire to a room at the Quality Inn

Last week, The Toccoa Police Department, along with the Toccoa Fire Department responded to the Quality Inn, located at 106 Stephens Circle, for a fire alarm.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers were confronted by a naked female, who was identified at Doris Winfield, 45, of College Park.

Winfield was setting fire to a room at the Quality Inn.

She had already set fire to items in the room and tried to set her daughter on fire while she slept.

The daughter, identified as Didrea Sanders, 25, or Atlanta, had gotten away from her mother and was attempting to pull items from the room.

Winfield fought the officers by kicking, punching and trying to bite them as they pulled her from the room.

She was secured and transported to Stephens County Hospital for evaluation.

Winfield was charged with reckless conduct, criminal damage to property in the first degree and aggravated assault.

Winfield was later transported from Stephens County Hospital to another location for further evaluation.

The case is active and pending due to damage estimates from the motel.
