Walter Marrow Daves Jr.

Mr. Walter Marrow Daves, Jr., age 78 of Addington Drive, Toccoa passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the Stephens County Hospital.

A son of the late Walter M. Daves, Sr. and Gertrude Gullie Daves, he was born August 4, 1942 in Durham, North Carolina having lived in Toccoa since 1969.  He was a graduate of Durham High School where he excelled in football and all sports, being named Athlete of the Year his senior year.  He was a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry.  He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.  He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve.  He was the former owner and president of Piedmont Paints and Primers until 2000, a former member of the Board of Directors for the Bank of Toccoa, a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of various clubs and organizations in Toccoa and Stephens County.  He was a pilot, an avid golfer and enjoyed playing rummy with his close friends. He also loved his Harley and enjoyed riding with his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Eulaine Cochran Daves of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Lori Daves Gilmer and Tommy of Toccoa; son and daughter-in-law, Walter M. Daves, III and Ileyana of Toccoa; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Daves Huffman and Dan of Richmond, Virginia; step-children, Patti and Barry Adkins of Nacogdoches, Texas, Brent Whiten of Acworth; grandchildren, Annabelle, Walker and Katharine Gilmer, Sophia and Walter M. Daves, IV “ Dru”; step-grandchildren, Maddi Adkins, Jackson, Ava and Jake Whiten; nephew, Jonathan Huffman (Holly) of Charleston, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Bill Cochran (Amelia) of Toccoa; many first cousins in North Carolina.

Memorial service will be Saturday, July 17, 2021, 2 O’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Brent White and The Reverend Dr. John Brown officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service time.

The family would like to thank the Visiting Angels for the care extended to their loved one, especially angel Glenda Smith. Also a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Toccoa Dialysis for the care extended to their loved one.
